Responsibilities

The primary function of the Automation Engineer is to design and manage the implementation of jewelry automation equipment into the manufacturing facility. This position defines the specifications of the equipment to ensure the quality and efficiency of the jewelry manufacturing process to achieve real savings. The position requires experience in project management, robotics, control systems, programming, PLC, work holding and assembly automation. The position will require hands on control systems experience needed to implement installations working closely with manufacturing to find creative automation solutions.

  • Ensure planned operational improvements can be realized leading to improved Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, People, Environment (SQDCPE).
  • Drive digital Business Process Transformation solutions across Manufacturing operations and process automation in collaboration with respective digital & process excellence leaders
  • Integrate Industry 4.0 and IIOT concepts & architecture to deliver operational technology applications/ systems.
  • Process experience with robotics or other high technology
  • Experience with automation hardware (system I/O modules &/or cards, power supplies, control relays, signal conditioners, etc.).
  • Identify and setup processes for opportunities associated with automation, technology
  • Implement new manufacturing technologies that adhere to Lean best practice with the goal of providing enhanced manufacturing performance and/or cost, maintaining or improving our competitive advantage.
  • Ability to coach and drive Automation principles (Functionality, User Friendliness and Safety) to the engineering and manufacturing teams with an innovation mindset that includes piloting, design of experiments
  • Design and Implement automation processes throughout the manufacturing process. Work closely with multiple departments and stakeholders to implement operational improvements. Provide initial equipment training to operators.
  • Drive process mechanisms to ensure adherence to standard work across a portfolio of advanced technologies
  • Project Management: Define scope, schedule, and means of implementation for automation projects. Prepare capital expense budgeting information and justifications. Facilitate project team meetings, updates, research, and the presentation of relevant analysis and materials.
  • Define automation equipment specifications for optimal performance to ensure quality and efficiency. Collect, interpret, and extrapolate data from the production process to monitor performance.
  • Complete Program Management of new automation solutions (Vendor Selection, Development thru Deployment, Vendor Management) including critical qualification and run off stage gates
  • Support onsite deployments to understand challenges and measure process standards through field validation
  • Delivery on time and budget plus cost and quality targets are met.
  • Familiar with value stream mapping or labor standards analysis
  • Produce electrical schematics, drawings and all project documentation
  • Utilize appropriate software for DWG’s, fixtures, components requirements to provide documentation to Toolroom
  • Required experience with good documentation practices and cGMP standards
  • Work closely with fellow ME’s and PE’s in the areas of Lean and Factory 4.0


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or other related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years industrial experience with emphasis in manufacturing automation equipment and processes
  • Strong Project Management experience
  • Demonstrated skill and achievement in implementing Automation solutions in a manufacturing environment and knowledge of Industry 4.0
  • Excellent influencing, negotiation skills at multiple organizational levels, including executive level
  • Must be able to analyze complex program requirements, identify key phases & workstreams
  • Well organized, displaying clear, rational and analytical approach to problem solving and planning
  • Remains calm under pressure and can find creative and pragmatic solutions
  • Willing to look for / explore new solutions or methods
  • A flexible, positive team player with skills to multi-task and contribute across disciplines
  • Ability and self-motivation to learn quickly, be proactive and independent
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to learn new skills, software, and hardware.
  • Ability to manage performance of 3rd party service providers, to ensure services deliver value for money
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio and Outlook)
  • Ability to travel among the various Tiffany locations and vendor/suppliers

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Project Management, Lean Six Sigma certification or training
  • Industry 4.0 experience
  • Working knowledge of Jewelry Manufacturing
