2021-srw Technical Research Assistant

Overview:
We are looking to hire a bright, hard working graduate with a background in natural sciences who is seeking employment for a minimum of two years before applying to MD, PhD or MD/PhD programs. The successful candidate would assist our postdoctoral fellows in studies focused on the mechanisms of signal transduction mediated by leukotriene receptors that contribute to the pathogenesis of asthma and chronic sinus disease. Specific duties would include the processing of tissue samples for flow cytometry and single cell genomics, the maintenance of cell and tissue cultures, and the performance of standard assays such as PCR, ELISA, and western blotting.

My lab has a long (25+ years) history of hiring Skidmore College graduates who have successfully transitioned to the graduate programs and career paths of their choice. 

Summary:
Working under general supervision of Principal Investigator, and in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, conducts a variety of routine experiments where methodologies are clearly established. Calculates, transcribes, and analyzes data using basic statistics. May perform literature searches under the direction of supervisor.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Responsible for organization and processing of biologic specimens from clinical studies.
  2. Maintains and organizes up-to-date database of all received specimens.
  3. Collect biological specimens
  4. Extract RNA and protein
  5. Perform quantitative PCR
  6. Perform tissue culture and maintains active cell lines
  7. Additional responsibilities at the PI’s discretion
 
Qualifications:
The individual must have a Bachelor’s degree and a background in Biology. The individual must have reasoning and verbal skills.

Skills/Abilities & Competencies:
The individual must be good at problem-solving and be able to keep an accurate, clear, and up-to-date lab notebook.

  • Normal laboratory environment
  • Limited exposure to hazardous materials under controlled conditions.
