Marine Conservation Action Fund Social Media Intern (Summer 2020)

The Marine Conservation Action Fund (MCAF), a program of the Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life, is seeking an organized volunteer to assist in social media and graphic design assistance for one of our internationally-based MCAF Fellows. The ideal candidate will have excellent social media skills, and be competent in Spanish to prepare social media content for Spanish speaking audiences on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. A candidate who has had some experience with or understanding of strategy around promoting non-profit organizations via social media would be highly preferred.

The MCAF Program is a micro-granting and fellowship program that addresses critical needs in the marine conservation field and has funded over 160 projects in over 50 countries. Since its inception in 1999, MCAF has supported researchers gathering key data on threatened and endangered animals, aided grassroots leaders in engaging and educating communities through local conservation projects and supported efforts to offer long-term protection for marine species and habitats. The MCAF Fellows Program builds enduring and supportive relationships with select MCAF grantees who are visionary, entrepreneurial and accomplished ocean leaders working primarily in the developing world. Through funding, technical, professional support and use of NEAq’s significant public platform, we work to foster the long-term conservation impact of our Fellows.

The MCAF Fellows Social Media Volunteer will work remotely and provide support weekly to an internationally-based Fellow, elevating the Fellow’s work through the Fellow’s organizational social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. The Fellow is fluent in Spanish and English, and would like the intern to assist with creating posts in both of those languages. The role will be creating and managing promotional and educational content, posting media, blogs, etc. in collaboration with the Fellow and their project team. The ideal candidate will also have basic graphic design skills to utilized for creating graphics/materials for posts.

Include any specific degree or course requirements, specific skills or experience, and any preferred characteristics (work independently, problem solving, etc.)

· Excellent communication skills

· Competent in Spanish, particularly in writing and in written translations between English and Spanish

· Proficient in social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter

· Some experience with or understanding of promoting non-profit organizations via social media is highly preferred

· Competent in basic graphic design for social media

· Exceptional attention to detail and organization skills

· Proficient in conducting online research

· Has an interest in and basic understanding/familiarity with global ocean conservation

· Can work remotely and has own computer equipment

· Highly self-motivated and able to complete tasks independently following training. Learns quickly.

· Follows directions carefully to perform tasks consistently. Seeks guidance when needed.

· Experience with creating educational content for youth is a bonus.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, positive attitude about hard work.
