Race and Equity Manager at California Arts Council

Job Description and Duties


The California Arts Council is a state agency that aims to exemplify government of, by and for the people of California. We are committed to developing an organizational culture that actively addresses barriers to equity, prioritizing racial equity and its cultural intersections. 
We work to address society’s systemic barriers and are seeking the perfect candidate to serve as the first Race and Equity Manager. This manager-level position is integral to implementing the agency’s first Racial Equity Action Plan and equity priorities. The Race and Equity Manager is a thought-leader for the agency, setting a precedent for our racial equity work for California’s arts & culture field.
Under the general direction of the Deputy Director, the Race and Equity Manager (Staff Services Manager I Specialist) is a key member of the Executive Team that provides strategic direction for institutionalizing racial equity in the Agency. The Race and Equity Manager will help lead the Agency’s Racial Equity Initiative, which includes editing and implementation of the Racial Equity Action Plan.


This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The position is responsible for making or participating in the making of governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment. Failure to comply with the Conflict of Interest Code requirements may void the appointment.
