Summer 2020 Internship (Remote)- Arts Administration, Virtual Events & Programs, and Social Media

Please note: Applications must be received by May 15, 2020 for consideration. A select group of candidates will be interviewed in mid-May by phone or video call.

ASA Summer Internship – Art Administration, Marketing, Virtual Events and Social Media
Since 1990 the Agricultural Stewardship Association (ASA) has been working to accomplish a singular mission: protect the farms and rich soils that make up the agricultural landscape of Washington and Rensselaer counties. In that time, ASA has managed to conserve 143 farms and 24,000 acres of land.

ASA is pleased to offer one unpaid summer internship opportunity to assist with the delivery of the organization’s major events and provide support for fundraising and outreach programs. This internship is designed for an energetic, multi-tasking, undergraduate student who wants to gain hands-on experience in coordinating and implementing components of complex events and art shows, gain an understanding of the development/fundraising field and broaden their writing skills.

Art Administration & Marketing
Landscapes for Landsake Art Sale & Exhibition has become one of the region’s largest art buying events and ASA’s largest fundraiser of the year. Participating artists generously donate 50% of their proceeds to support ASA’s farmland conservation work. 2019 was our most successful art sale and exhibition to date, selling 270 pieces of art totaling $108,000. In 2020 we are planning to make this a virtual event due to social distancing requirements.

The intern will work remotely with ASA’s Communications and Outreach Manager and an experienced curator to help set up our first ever virtual Landscapes for Landsake. The intern will also help with marketing the event through social media, press releases, print materials and other online forums. We are excited to have a youthful perspective to create buzz around this event and look forward to new creative solutions that will make the event just as special in new ways.

Virtual Programming and Events
In addition to helping ASA set up its first virtual event platform for fundraising purposes, the intern will play a critical role in establishing virtual programing and events. ASA’s community outreach programs are designed to get participants to make a connection with the land. This summer we will create new ways for the community to connect virtually with our local conserved farms including virtual farm tours given by farmers. The intern should be comfortable using video making software such as iMovie to tell stories, help viewers experience farms and understand ASA’s mission. The intern will also help create video for ASA’s Forever Farmland Supper, our annual celebration, which will have virtual and feature clips from the farms that have been conserved in the past year.

Social Media
In June 2019, ASA purchased a property in White Creek that will become the Cambridge Community Forest. The forest will open to the public in late 2020. In the meantime, ASA staff are working with a team of volunteers to get the forest ready for public use. The intern will take the lead on creating a social media presence for the Cambridge Community Forest through Facebook and Instagram. The intern will be charged with building an audience for the forest while maintaining ASA’s branding for this new project.

The intern will also work on ASA’s climate communications team helping with content creation around agriculture and climate change. ASA has created a very detailed climate communication strategy working with local farmers that seeks to create better public perception of the benefits farms have or can have on mitigating climate change. The intern will help use the app “Pocket” to save evergreen content from credible news sources, create meme’s and sharing interesting and inspiring content on ASA’s social media channels.

Requirements:
  • Must be enrolled as an undergraduate, art program a plus.
  • Enthusiastic interest in event planning, visual arts, social media, development work, and the region’s agricultural landscapes.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team virtually.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, social media and video creation and editing
Schedule:
  • Ability to work 4-8 hours per day, with the opportunity to extend the internship through October with flexible hours.
  • Availability between June and August, or as arranged in advance.
  • The schedule can be negotiated depending on availability.

ASA protects our community’s working farms and forests, connects people to the land, and promotes a vibrant future for agriculture and forestry in the region. For more information visit www.agstewardship.org
