Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Summer Camp VISTA Associate

Are you interested in learning more about nonprofit organizations and how their programs transform the community they serve? Our vision is that Houston will be a city in which everyone has the requisite literacy skills needed for success in school, work, and life. Together, we can make this not only an idea or vision but also a reality. To accomplish our mission, BBHLF partners with nonprofit organizations that serve low-income communities to provide literacy support to Title 1 schools and to schools with a high number of students that receive free or reduced-priced lunches. The Children’s Museum of Houston in partnership with the Houston Independent School District, the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation, and several other corporate and nonprofit partners will host two sessions of Camp Adventure! this summer. Camp Adventure! is a two-week program free to disadvantaged elementary children across Houston. Each camp will include an array of interactive activities in reading, financial literacy, STEM and STEAM curriculum. Volunteers serve as instructors and mentors and offer other resources to ensure that children have a fun and engaging experience during summer. We are certain that Camp Adventure! 2020 will be an exciting and unique experience for all campers and one that combines robust instruction and relevant curriculum with the joys of summer camp.
