The Global Fund to End Modern Slavery (GFEMS) is a bold international fund forging public-private partnerships and catalyzing a coherent global strategy to end modern slavery. Our mission is to end modern slavery by making it economically unprofitable.
GFEMS will issue subawards or grants across sectors and geographies with a focus on three core funding themes: rule of law, business engagement, and sustaining freedom. The Fund’s strategy also includes the development of public-private investments across key industries and innovative approaches to evaluating what works in reducing the prevalence of modern slavery. Intern Summary
GFEMS is looking for interns interested in researching and summarizing key learnings on issues related to modern slavery for the Fund’s internal knowledge management platform.
 
Qualifications: Education/ Experience
Applicants should be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with experience or an interest in conducting secondary research and literature reviews on modern slavery globally.
 
Candidates will possess the following skills/abilities:
  • Strong English writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and pay attention to detail
  • Previous experience using Google Drive 
  • Subject knowledge in modern slavery and/or related subjects is a plus
  •  Experience using MediaWiki and/or knowledge of CSS language is a plus
Typical duties/responsibilities will include:
  • Summarize research and best available evidence on modern slavery in a concise and accurate manner
  • Conduct research on various topics related to modern slavery – including, but not limited to: geographies with high incidences of modern slavery, sectors where GFEMS conducts modern slavery programming and prevalence measurement methodologies – and produce summaries of key learnings
  • Edit existing content for grammatical errors, missing links and citations
  • Meets with supervisor on a regular basis to review completed work and quality of performance and ask questions
  • Performs other related duties as needed
Learning opportunities:
  • Each intern will be mentored by a member of the Evidence and Learning Team, who will help them identify and cultivate professional skills
  • The mentor will help identify relevant contacts according to the specific interests and goals of the intern, making introductions where appropriate
  • Interns will have the opportunity to learn about other activities within the Evidence and Learning Team based on interest
 
Further details:
  • The time commitment is flexible, however a minimum of 5-10 hours a week is ideal with at least a 3-month commitment
  • Applicants can work remotely or from the Washington DC office
  • This position is unpaid. We are happy to provide any documentation needed for class credit or internship hours
