The Global Fund to End Modern Slavery (GFEMS) is a bold public-private partnership that seeks to catalyze and coordinate a coherent global strategy to end modern slavery. Our mission is to end modern slavery by making it economically unprofitable.  
GFEMS makes grants across sectors and geographies with a focus on three core funding themes: rule of law, business engagement, and sustaining freedom. The Fund’s strategy also includes the development of public-private investments across key industries and innovative approaches to evaluating what works in reducing the prevalence of modern slavery. Role description
The Communications Intern will be an integral member of the Fund’s team, responsible for supporting the Communications Specialist and executing key activities within the Fund’s communications strategy. The Intern will assist in the planning and execution of social media campaigns, event planning, creating stories of impact from the Fund’s programs on the ground, drafting email newsletters, and contributing to the production of other public materials for the Fund. 
Collaborating across the organization, the intern will work with different teams to identify, package, and disseminate the most powerful stories from the Fund’s work. They will work directly with the Communications Specialist on developing dissemination strategies and on planning communications campaigns that leverage key events, supporting the GFEMS mission, driving traffic to the Fund’s platforms, and increasing the Fund’s visibility. They will also assist in managing the website and developing social media content. 
The ideal applicant is a proactive, mission-driven communications or international development student or recent graduate with superb attention to detail and experience in communications with a global nonprofit or human rights organization. 
It is anticipated that the intern will work 20-25 hours a week. This is a paid opportunity. 
Primary responsibilities may include the following:
  • Develop external communications materials (e.g., press releases, blog posts, event marketing, etc.) and communications plans for key milestones (e.g. grant announcements, publications, workshops, etc.)
  • Assist in coordinating media outreach and partnerships, activities, including drafting and
  • Develop and update marketing materials aligned with the Fund’s branding guidelines
  • Develop and update content on the GFEMS website
  • Create email newsletters
  • Contribute to and create content for the Fund’s social media channels
  • Provide marketing and planning support for events and/or speaking opportunities
Candidate qualifications
  • Senior, recent graduate or graduate student in communications, international relations, international development, or other relevant area of study
  • Demonstrated experience working with a nonprofit or human rights organization 
  • Commitment to working for a mission-driven organization
  • Organized, with strong attention to detail 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including impeccable English grammar and editing skills
  • Mastery of all Microsoft Office and Google Docs programs
  • Razor-sharp critical thinking skills, a proactive problem-solving attitude, and responsiveness to feedback
  • Demonstrated experience in writing, content, marketing, or other communications for nonprofit organizations (preferred)
  • Experience managing and updating SquareSpace websites; familiarity with mass mail systems such as MailChimp (preferred)
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, especially InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator (preferred)
