PAL: Summer 2020 - Education Intern
The Saratoga Farmers’ Market is looking for a motivated undergraduate student to assist the Market Manager with education activities at the market. This summer internship will allow the student to apply educational training in a local community setting and get an in-depth look at local food systems and small, sustainable business operations.
Tasks:
- Plan and host POP Club kids’ activities focused on local food, nutrition, and sustainability
- Assist Market Manager with planning food-themed market events and activities
- Promote and support market ventures including SNAP benefits distribution, collaborations with community organizations and partners, and surveying our community
- Create educational materials for the market, including infographics, posters, social media posts, etc.
- Work one to two markets per week: assist Market Manager with set up and breakdown of market, support vendors, staff the market information table, and assist with special events
Student interests: Education, nutrition, sustainability, local food systems, social studies.
Dates: This internship lasts approximately 2.5 months from early June - mid August; will work with students around availability.
Time: 10 hours per week. This includes every Saturday market (8:30am - 1:30pm) and every other Wednesday market (2:30pm - 6:30pm). The rest of the hours are worked off-site.
Compensation: $20/hr per Saturday market worked; $15/hr per Wednesday market worked; will work with student to earn academic credit.
