Social Media, Marketing, and Communications Internship

The Yleana Leadership Foundation, a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit, is seeking a Social Media, Marketing, and Communications Intern who is looking to gain experience in nonprofit marketing and communications over the summer. This part-time intern will work remotely during summer 2020 and will engage in various aspects of social media, marketing, and communications.

The Yleana Leadership Foundation aims to create exceptional educational experiences for young people of all income levels: preparing our students for success as people and professionals, while decreasing the achievement gap.

Our foundation’s flagship program is the Yleana Leadership Academy (“the Academy”) founded in 2013. The Academy is a residential summer academy on the campuses of Colgate University and Mount Holyoke College for rising high school seniors preparing to take the SAT.  Students prepare for the SAT, develop entrepreneurial skills, read, and discuss their future with counselors and each other. The approximately 80 low-income students who attend the academy every summer receive a full scholarship - including transportation, tuition, and room and board - to attend one of our two three-week sessions. Follow-up academic sessions are also conducted in these students’ home towns as they prepare to take that fall’s SAT.

To achieve all of this, Yleana is in the process of expanding its marketing activity, including advertising our for-profit arm, the Socratic Summer Academy. The marketing intern will provide assistance for the implementation of all promotional activities across our diverse and robust marketing schedule: social media marketing, audience outreach and development, website development, and more. If you are interested in gaining hands-on experience in all aspects of marketing and communications, this job is a perfect learning opportunity.

What you'll be doing:

  • Update and develop our marketing calendar;
  • Create and schedule content for Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram posts;
  • Organize and implement grassroots marketing outreach to potential donors and other interested groups;
  • Draft and edit our e-newsletter;
  • Research on and outreach to prospective new audiences;
  • Coordinate with other staff members to organize a cohesive marketing strategy;
  • Various additional duties, as needed and directed by the Chief Growth Officer.

We'd love to hear from you if you:

  • Are currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (required)
  • Are a self-starter
  • Have experience with social media marketing and familiarity with various platforms and social media tools (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, MailChimp, Canva, etc.)
  • Have familiarity with photo editing and design software
  • Have excellent research and organization skills
  • Are consistently well-organized, detail oriented, and results-driven
  • Have excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Have a passion for helping students from historically marginalized communities succeed in graduating high school and matriculating to college
  • Are ambitious and eager to learn

Position details:

  • Interns will work part time; work schedules are flexible and will be determined with the Chief Growth Officer
  • The internship will run from early June to mid-August; exact dates are flexible pending intern’s academic schedule
  • Interns will work remotely, with the use of Zoom
  • Interns will report directly to the Chief Growth Officer
