CDC Occupational Health Communications Fellowship

A research opportunity is currently available with the Division of Field Studies and Engineering (DFSE), within the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Cincinnati, Ohio. 

The Division of Field Studies and Engineering seeks to prevent work-related illness through a multidisciplinary program including worksite evaluations, surveillance, research, and the development of engineering controls and interventions. The selected participant will train with DFSE health communication specialists and be involved with the development and dissemination of occupational health information. The participant will have the opportunity to contribute to multiple health communication projects and collaborate with occupational safety and health professionals from a variety of disciplines (e.g., communication, engineering, industrial hygiene, medicine, epidemiology, and more).

Under the guidance of a mentor, the participant will be trained and gain experience by:
  • Contributing to the development of messages and communication products such as brochures, fact sheets, blogs, web pages, social media content, or other materials, for external and internal audiences. The participant will learn or improve skills in developing materials targeted for a specific audience.
  • Drafting occupational health education materials and messages for outreach and dissemination through a variety of communication channels. The participant will learn or improve skills in writing for various communication media.
  • Reviewing relevant research on health communication and occupational health topics. The participant will learn or improve skills in compiling and synthesizing complex information from multiple sources.
  • Collaborating with DFSE staff on health communication projects. The participant will learn or improve skills in interacting with a wide variety of professionals from various perspectives.

Anticipated Appointment Start Date: May 18, 2020

Qualifications
The qualified candidate should be currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in one of the relevant fields.
