Intern - Governance

Job Summary
 
The Governance Intern will support the Governance Division in the compilation and analysis of the NJEDA Board’s adoption of program related and financing policies and other research and analysis as it relates to board governance. The position will be based in the Trenton office.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 
  • Supports the Director of Governance and Strategic Initiatives in researching, collecting and analyzing NJEDA board actions related to policy, program development, and financing decions and adoption of associated policies that implement such programs;
  • Creating a repository of policy related board actions, and entering, updating and analyzing such data for the improvement and streamlining of NJEDA Board governance practices.
  • Assists with drafting of memoranda and narrative analysis summarizing the findings of the data collection of board policies and related governance matters, activities and initiatives.
  • Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned, including research on matters and process related to board governance
  • Supports board meeting management and may attend NJEDA and related board and committee meetings as necessary.
  • Promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative, and customer focused work environment among division, EDA staff, and external customers.
·        Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned.
 
Required Skills and Abilities
 
·        General knowledge and interest in public policy, public administration, project management and implementation.
·        Strong analytical skills
·        Ability to analyze data, reports, and summarizing findings
·        Experience in using Excel to create spreadsheets and perform basic analysis
·        Experience in using other Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, PowerPoint, Project, Publisher, Outlook)
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; proficient in grammar, spelling and editing; and foster communications with business professionals and EDA staff
·        Ability to prioritize workload, must be highly organized, detail-oriented, handle various tasks simultaneously and work independently within limited time constrains with little or no supervision
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and deal effectively and diplomatically with business professionals and EDA staff
  • Demonstrates respectful behavior and promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative and customer focused work environment among division, EDA staff and external customers. 
·        Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software packages
Required Qualifications
 
Education and Experience Requirements
·        Enrollment in an accredited degree program related to public policy, public administration, political science, or a related field or a combination of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills were acquired.

Position Requirements
