NYC -SRD-Psychosocial Intern (Summer 2019)

Internship Description
A Psycho-Social internship at The Quad Manhattan is an excellent way to gain hands-on clinical experience in a recreational and educational setting that is designed for Twice Exceptional “2e” children. 2e children are gifted, yet have learning differences or other special needs. Through this 8-week volunteer commitment, psycho-social interns gain a better understanding of models that have been specifically designed to address the needs of 2e children. Interns work directly with a team of multidisciplinary staff members as well as with one another. Interns will have supervised, direct classroom teaching and one on one experiences with our students. There is active training and supervision by our Founder and Director, a Psychiatrist, our Supervising Psychologist, and our Summer Program Director, a special educator.
Responsibilities 
  • Assist classroom teachers throughout the day by supporting the psycho-social, recreational, and educational curriculum.  
  • Assist instructors with implementation of daily activities. 
  • Assist children with activities, special projects and life skills as determined by their schedule. 
  • Perform simple routine tasks. 
  • Prepare, arrange and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate the daily schedule. 
  • Interact with children according to The Quad's Social and Emotional Learning Paradigms. Training and Supervision will be provided on an ongoing basis. 
  • Supervising children during daily schedule of indoor and outdoor activities, on field trips, outings, and special events. 
  • Ensure children (as applicable) depart with an authorized person according to written parental instructions. 
  • Assist in maintaining program participation data and completing required daily reports. 
*There is a rigorous academic portion to this Internship and all interns will be required to attend trainings and psychosocial supervision, do ALL required readings, and complete a project and write final report(s) under the guidance of our Supervising Psychologist. 
 
Qualifications
  • Either: undergraduate (rising senior), college graduate or graduate school student 
  • Major(s): Psychology, Pre Med, Special Education, Speech and Language Pathology or Occupational Therapy 
  • Minimum 3.6 GPA (This is a very rigorous internship that requires commitment and a very strong work ethic.)
  • Extremely enthusiastic about learning
  • Experience in working with children. 
  • Well-organized, detail oriented, creative, resourceful, strong problem solving skills
  • Extremely reliable and consistent - MUST COMMIT TO ENTIRE SUMMER 
  • Proactive thinker
  • Ability to work well with people in a team-oriented workplace setting
  • Positive ‘can do’ attitude 
  • Excellent capacity for flexibility

Dates & Compensation
  • Must be able to work 5 days per week, June 18, 2018 through August 10, 2018 from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Please do not apply to the internship if you cannot commit to work EVERY DAY for eight weeks. No exceptions can be made. 
  • Internship is UNPAID, but College or Graduate School Credit possible - must be arranged and approved in advance 
  • Stipend of $185 for travel expenses paid out at the end of the program, on August 10, 2018.
